Department of Anatomy, Histology & Embryology
More ...About Department of Anatomy, Histology & Embryology
Department of Anatomy, Histology, and Embryology is considered one of the basic and largest departments since the founding of the faculty. It includes Histology and Embryology Laboratory, the research Laboratory, equipped Anatomy hall, and Anatomy Museum. There are two divisions under the department: Anatomy division and Histology and Embryology division which are among the basic requirements for Bachelor of Veterinary Medical Sciences program. The course of Veterinary Anatomy is designed to study the basic knowledge of general and comparative anatomy of domestic animals. General Anatomy studies the normal morphology, structure and topography of all different organs and systems in the body. Comparative anatomy is concerned with the comparison between homologous organs in different species as well as within the same species. This will help students to understand how specific anatomical characters can be varied among species in response to their particular functions and requirements. Anatomical knowledge is fundamental for preparing students sufficiently to the other related sciences such as physiology, pathology and surgery. The course of Veterinary Histology and Embryology is designed to acquire a basic background in histology and embryology of domestic animals. Histology studies the properties of cells and their interactions with one another as components of tissues and organs. It correlates between structures and functions of main tissues and systems of animals at the microscopic level. Understanding the histology concept will help students to describe the normal structure and function of various cell types, tissues, and organs, and to differentiate between their histological structures. Embryology is concerned with studying the different embryonic and fetal stages during the normal prenatal development. It also offers a sufficient understanding for potential causes of various malformations. Studying of histology and embryology is highly required as a base for pathology and theriogenology.
